Celebrating International Women's Day: Female Founded Brands We Love

Posted by Cameron Howard on

In honor of International Women's Day, March 8th, we are showcasing some of our beloved women-founded brands from across the globe. Today, we celebrate women's accomplishments and achievements everywhere as we stride toward gender equality and female empowerment.
acler
Australia-based brand Acler was founded by co-designers Kathryn Forth and Julia Ritorto. When the pair first met to conceptualize Acler, their common goal was to rebel against cookie-cutter digital design and bring the design process back to its fundamentally tactile roots. Each Acler piece is developed over a process of 12 months and is subtly redrafted, and redraped along the way, allowing the design to take on its own form naturally. The end result is a meticulously constructed piece, which has an organic sculptural shape and ultimately refined minimalism.
a.w.a.k.e. mode
Founded by Natalia Alaverdian in 2012, A.W.A.K.E. MODE is exploring the idea of creating an avant-garde yet versatile wardrobe, recognizable for its innovative cuts, unexpected details, light-heartedness, and subtle cross-cultural and historical references from art and film. In a world driven by fast-changing trends, A.W.A.K.E. MODE is determined to produce unique and almost art-object-like pieces, adaptable to fit into a woman’s daily life.
batsheva
Founded in 2016 by Batsheva Hay, Batsheva plays with American styles of feminine dress – from Victorian to Pioneer; from Housewife to Hippie – by taking elements symbolic of restraint and repression (high collars, voluminous sleeves, and skirts) and giving them a modern inflection. By retooling historical looks, Batsheva explores how to extract the strong and beautiful aspects of those styles while rejecting antiquated notions of womanhood.
cara cara
Cara Cara was founded in 2019 by Julia Brown, Sasha Martin, and Katie Hobbs. Friendship, motherhood, and the celebration of natural beauty are the foundations of their brand. Prints are designed in-house, or adapted from vintage textiles, and are often inspired by interior design and the escapism of a far-flung oasis. Crisp cotton poplin is a hallmark of the brand and a perennial canvas for signature prints. Entirely female-founded, owned, and operated, Cara Cara designs clothes for real women and seeks to embody a unique kind of casual glamour.
edeline lee
Edeline Lee launched her eponymous label in 2014.  She is known for her immersive and performative shows at London Fashion Week. Her pieces emphasize precision cutting, hand-made details, and femininity of form. They are tailored to fit a wide range of body types.  Her signature fabrics resist wrinkling so that women can function at a high level in the clothes.  These are pieces designed with a soul, made with quality and meaning, and made to fit well to lift the best out of you. Edeline has received strong support from the women of the art world, who naturally gravitate towards her aesthetically sophisticated signature.
marion parke
Marion Parke is an American pediatric surgeon and luxury footwear designer. Motivated by her vision for footwear with intelligent design, she creates shoes that seamlessly blend thoughtful structure with an elegant yet edgy style. Marion Parke has treated countless stylish women seeking beautiful footwear with considerate construction. In response to this need, she launched her namesake collection for Spring 2016.
munthe
Munthe was founded back in 1994 in Copenhagen by Creative Director Naja Muntheis as a women’s luxury ready-to-wear label. The brand’s signature style represents the carefree attitude of the cool, casual Scandinavian girl; beautiful suits that are strong but not unfeminine, floaty silhouette dresses, artistic hand-painted prints, and constant innovation in fabrics. With a predilection for unique details and well-executed ideas, MUNTHE has become synonymous with clothing that is made to be worn and loved in both relaxed and festive situations.
patbo
PatBO is a Brazillian brand by Patricia Bonaldi that captures the vibrant energy of South America through its artfully hand-embroidered RTW and swim. The richly detailed embroidery and bold prints that are a hallmark of the label are a perfect example of the brand's commitment to both technical expertise and boundless imagination. Rather than outsourcing this, Patricia Bonaldi established a school for the purpose of teaching local women this special craft.
rachel comey
New York designer Rachel Comey focuses her line on the relationship between the materials used and the diversity of the women wearing the pieces. A consistent design practice for the brand is to pose questions: How can fabrics and techniques be engaged to formulate new ways to rethink, change or relate our everyday experiences? With each collection, a conversational approach to design provokes an insightful response to what it means to think and wear RC clothing.
rejina pyo
Rejina Pyo is a London-based fashion brand built upon a philosophy that explores dressing as an everyday phenomenon, both mundane and extraordinary, for women all over the world. Wanting to contribute something special to this daily ritual, Pyo's vision is to create modern, wearable pieces that encourage individual instincts and maintain relevance and quality over time. Rejina Pyo is not concerned with promoting quick or short-term trends, instead, the brand is focused on building long-term relationships and evolving with our wearers over time.
soeur
Soeur is the story of two sisters, Domitille and Angélique Brion, a complementary duo drivenby the desire to dress all women, all generations combined, and to embody what we are with sensitivity and simplicity.
the vampire's wife
Taking its name from her husband Nick Cave’s abandoned book project, The Vampire’s Wife is the design vision of Susie Cave, former model and muse to the great British designers Vivienne Westwood, Bella Freud, and Philip Treacy. Inspired by her background in fashion The Vampire’s Wife offers luxuriously crafted, elegant, and feminine designs in vibrant colors and unique fabrications.
